EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette men's basketball team continued the 2022-23 conference slate at home on Monday with an 82-65 loss to Army in Kirby Sports Center.
The Black Knights shot 58.5 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from the 3-point range overall. Army's Jalen Rucker went 4-for-4 from the floor in the first half and totaled 21 points this evening.
Both teams opened the game with a focus on intense offense, with a score of 19-14 in favor of Army at the 12-minute mark. Junior
Kyle Jenkins netted a trio of layups as well as a 3-pointer to start the game, leading with nine points.
Army sank a pair of 3-pointers to aid in a 32-21 lead at 8:38.
Josh Rivera continued to have a productive evening alongside Jenkins, both crossing into double-digit point territory with just under two minutes remaining in the first half.
The Black Knights made an aggressive run for a 54-36 lead at the halftime buzzer, shooting 75 percent from beyond the arc.
Junior
Eric Sondberg scored a 3-pointer at 14:10 to finish with a new career-high 14 points. Jenkins finished the night with 18 points, matching his former season-high against St. Joseph's on Nov. 14, 2022.
Freshman
Gavin Kreitz saw his first career minutes coming off of an injury, entering the game with two minutes left to play.
The Leopards will travel to Boston U. on Thursday with tip-off at 6 p.m.
