EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men's soccer team was defeated by La Salle 1-0 on Tuesday night at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Explorers controlled the majority of the match's possession for the first 30 minutes.
La Salle opened the scoring in the 32
nd minute. The ball broke kindly for Sean Yurgel as he and sophomore
Nicholas Liebich raced to the ball. Yurgel won the race and poked home the opening goal for the Explorers
, leaving sophomore goalkeeper
Eric Axtman no chance.
Junior
Lawrence Aydlett had a good chance in the 33
rd minute. The ball found Aydlett at the top of the box before he unleashed an effort on the half-volley. The Reistertown Md. native's shot trickled just wide of Filip Sabitti's goal.
La Salle retained its 1-0 lead going into halftime .
Four minutes into the second half sophomore
Connor DeAngelis struck a 30-yard belter directed towards Sabitti's goal. DeAngelis's effort hit the top of the left post, but stayed out.
The majority of the remaining action occurred in midfield as both teams battled for possession as time wound
down. Lafayette threw men forward but was unable to find the equalizer. The match ended 1-0 in favor of La Salle.
The Maroon and White are back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a matchup against Boston U at Gummeson Grounds.
