BOSTON, Mass.– The Lafayette field hockey team moved to 7-5 (4-1 PL) after defeating Boston University 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at New Balance Field.
Today's victory continues the program's four-game win streak, which includes three conference contests, and signifies that Lafayette clinched one of the four spots in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. The Leopards currently sit in the No. 2 seeded slot behind American.
Neither program found the net in the first half, despite Lafayette taking three shots and one penalty corner. The Maroon and White's defensive squad kept the opposition out of the circle entirely.
Junior co-captain
Lineke Spaans scored lone goal of the contest and eventual Lafayette game-winner at 31:25 in the third period. The Bussum, Netherlands native startled the Terrier defense with a quick self-start right outside of the circle, where she freely sent a drive past Boston's goalkeeper. She has now scored in three consecutive games.
The Leopards held the advantage in total shots (6-4) and tied for penalty corners at three apiece.
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper
Emma Garvey made two saves, while her Terrier counterpart, Kate Thomason, made one.
The Leopards travel to Providence on Sunday for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest.
