Field hockey secures a two-win weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior midfielder Lineke Spaans led the Lafayette field hockey team to victory against Providence, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams fought through the midfield before forward Alex Darrah took the first goal of the game at 16:20 in the second quarter. She sent in a deflection at the left post, assisted by classmate Spaans.

The Leopards kept the advantage through the halftime break before the Friars tied the contest 1-1 at 42:02 in the third period with a shot by Ally Decoste.

Spaans netted her first goal of the day, a deflection on the right post just under two minutes later, to regain the lead. The Bussum, Netherlands native scored again at 58:08 as Providence emptied the net for an extra field player.

Lafayette held the advantage in total shots (10-9), while the Friars earned more penalty corners (7-4).
