Volleyball Defeated by Navy in Four Sets

Lafayette is back in action Saturday at 4 p.m. for senior day against American

EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette volleyball team fell to Navy in four sets (29-27, 25-21, 25-19, 25-23) Friday night inside Kirby Sports Center.

The first set of action was a 56-point thriller. Lafayette was down 15-12 after Maggie Bodman grabbed a kill for the Mids. Bodman finished the match with 13 kills, hitting .417. The Maroon and White fought its way back to 22 apiece after a 3-0 run courtesy of a kill from senior Gracie Gibson and a pair of attack errors by Navy. The Leopards took the first set 29-27 after back-to-back kills from freshman Ally Feczko. The Wexford, Pa. native tallied her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs.

There were 11 ties and five lead changes in the second set. Lafayette jumped out to a 7-5 lead after kills from freshman Irelynd Lorenzen and fellow classmate Emma Patmon. Lorenzen had a career outing, finishing the match with seven kills, one service ace, four solo blocks and two block assists. With the scored tied at 16-16, the Mids went on a 3-0 run thanks to kills from Anna Klemeyer and Jamie Llewellyn. Navy won the second set 25-21.

Navy took a 3-0 lead to start the third set. Maggie Bogdon and Jamie Llewellyn each had four kills to propel the Mids to taking the third set 25-19.

The Mids led 15-14 at the beginning of the fourth set before they went on a 2-0 run to extend their lead. The Leopards clawed their way back to being down by one point, but Navy didn't look back. Navy won the final set of the match 25-23.

Lafayette is back in action on Saturday at 4 p.m. as it hosts American for senior day.
