EASTON, Pa.–Â
Stella Malinowski led the Lafayette field hockey team with five points in a 6-0 shutout against Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field.
Junior captain
Lineke Spaans opened the scoring run with a strong drive during a penalty corner (14:44) that was assisted by
Lena Thedrian and Malinowski.
The second quarter saw the most action from Lafayette, as the Leopards took a combined 11 shots on goal and four corners in the 15 minutes of play.
Alex Darrah found her own rebound at 16:27 for the second goal of the game. Malinowski followed up with a good penalty stroke just two minutes later.
Spaans' second goal of the day was an exact replica of her first penalty corner, with assists by Thedrian and
India Ralph this time.
The Maroon and White scored once per quarter following the halftime break.
In the third period, freshman
Lea Good managed to sink a tip past the Raider goalkeeper that came from a reverse by
Mackenzie Hall.
The final Lafayette goal was scored by Malinowski at 59:03. Her classmate, Good, sent the Vancouver, B.C. native a perfect ball from the baseline to the stroke mark for an easy shot into the net.
Lafayette held the advantage in total shots (27-4) and penalty corners (7-4). The defensive unit had another stellar showing this afternoon, holding their opponents to four total shots with zero on goal.
Lafayette's goalkeepers
Raffi Fragomeni and
Emma Garvey were left untested in the cage. Their Colgate counterpart, Claire van Kempen, made 11 saves.
The Leopards face Drexel on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
