EASTON, Pa.– The Lafayette field hockey team secured its second win of the weekend, defeating Drexel 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Rappolt Field.
Junior captain
Lineke Spaans claimed the lone goal in the matchup. Freshman
Stella Malinowski sent a penalty corner sweep towards the cage, which Spaans masterfully tipped past the Drexel goalkeeper at 5:47 in the first quarter.
The Leopard defensive unit played a key role in holding off the Dragon offense, keeping them to a season-low two shots on goal, both taking place in the first half.
The team stayed focused throughout the game, finding precise opportunities around the attacking baseline and making composed outlet transfers.
The program currently has a five-game win streak on the home turf.
Lafayette held the final advantage in total shots (8-6) and penalty corners (4-2).
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper
Emma Garvey made 2 saves, which was matched by her Drexel counterpart, Megan Hadfield.
Prior to the contest, the Maroon and White celebrated the careers and achievements of the four-member graduating class:
Ariel Schumacher,
Carly Kreytak, Alex Conway and Garvey.
The Leopards next play at Boston U. on Saturday.
