PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - A strong third quarter lost steam as the Leopards fell to Drexel 16-14 on Tuesday evening.

John Mathes had a stellar showing, leading the Leopards with four goals.
Peter Lehman,
Charlie Cunniffe and
Jacob Freeman each netted two goals apiece.
Kalman Kraham contributed three assists.

Drexel was led by Max Semple with five goals and five ground balls. Sean Donnelly chipped in four goals and one assist for the Dragons. Justin Joseph went 22-for-33 in faceoffs, tallying one goal.

Lafayette struck first when Mathes found the back of the net only 44 seconds into the contest. Mathes netted another and
Jacob Freeman scored his first goal on the season as the Dragons led 4-3 heading into the second quarter.

Five different goal scorers got on the board for the Leopards as Drexel held on to lead 9-8 at intermission.

 The Leopards opened the third with a 4-0 run up to 1:14 remaining in the quarter. Cunniffe scored two, while Kraham and
Liam Sargent chipped in one goal apiece. Semple netted the lone goal for the Dragons in the third as Lafayette led 12-10 heading into the final quarter.

Drexel struck 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, as Donnelly pulled the Dragons within one.Â

Lehman responded four minutes later, giving the Leopards a 13-11 lead with 9:58 on the clock.

Donnelly netted his fourth goal of the evening as the Dragons once again pulled within one with 6:10 remaining. Mathes responded with his fourth on the next possession, giving the Leopards a two-goal lead.

Semple struck with his fourth and fifth goals on consecutive possessions, tying the game at 14 even with 3:00 on the clock.

As the Dragons gained momentum, Conor Hooley gave Drexel the 15-14 lead with just over two minutes remaining. Luke Tomak found the back of the net to solidify the 16-14 final in Philadelphia.

Lafayette's rookie goalkeeper
Joe Doherty made 11 saves on the night. Drexel's Ross Blumenthal recorded three saves in his 30 minutes of action, while teammate Drew McGill made four saves in his stint.

The Leopards head to Binghamton on Saturday for a noon matchup.
