Baseball Signs 15 to the Class of 2027

Recruiting class is comprised of student-athletes from eight different states

 

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette baseball head coach A.J. Miller announced on Wednesday the signings of 15 student-athletes as part of the College's Class of 2027.

"We are very excited about the 2023 recruiting class. The staff worked quickly and efficiently to fill this class with 15 student-athletes arriving from eight different states. Thirteen members of the class are graduating high school seniors and two are junior college transfers," Miller said. "Not only is this exciting because it is our first recruiting class as a staff, but we believe this class will have a tremendous impact on the Lafayette Baseball program. We are excited for them to get to campus in the fall!"

The Lafayette Nine welcome Justin Breitenstein, Teddy Cashman, Luke Caucci, Matt Colella, Jack Dawson, Brandon Doubek, Trevor Dutra, Ryan Grace, Jeremiah Holder, Mason Koczwara, Greyson Kovatch, John Milewski, Nick Robertson, Chase Rodgers and Ethan Young in the newest incoming class.

 Breitenstein

Justin Breitenstein (Estero, Fla./Estero) will join the Leopards as a pitcher. A four-year varsity starter, Breitenstein is a two-time team MVP, a News-Press All-Area baseball team selection and was named to the Perfect Game and Baseball Factory Preseason All-America teams. He also played for three years on the Estero basketball team as a power forward and center, and was a member of the CBU Scout team.

Breitenstein, who plans to major in Chemical Engineering, earned Academic Honor Roll status and participated in the Cambridge AICE program. He has volunteered with the American Legion, the United Way, the Boys & Girls Club, Lee Health Foundation, the Red Sox Foundation and the Student Athlete Community Service Network.
 

Cashman

Teddy Cashman (New Canaan, Conn./St. Lukes/Avon Old Farms)
will enter the Lafayette roster as an infielder/outfielder. A four-year member of the St. Luke's program, he led the FAA in home runs in 2022, while serving as a team captain and being selected All-New England in that same year. Cashman earned FAA All-League honors three times.

He was a member of the East Coast Lumberjacks and participated in the PDP Baseball league and Area Code baseball.


Caucci

Luke Caucci (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) will be added to the Leopard lineup as an infielder/outfielder. He is a four-year baseball member of the Plymouth Whitemarsh baseball team and an All-Suburban One League selection in the outfield, helping his team win the Suburban One League Championship. He also started in centerfield in the Carpenter Cup for Bucks-Mont.

Caucci was named to the distinguished honor roll for four straight years and plans to major in Psychology. He has volunteered with Cradles to Crayons and the Salvation Army, and supported ALS Fundraising and the MLK Day of Service.


Colella

Matt Colella (Clifton, Va./Centreville) 
enters the Lafayette roster as a middle infielder. A four-year starter in baseball, Colella batted .429 on the diamond as a junior and was named team captain and team MVP, along with being selected First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-District. On the gridiron, Colella excelled as defensive back, recording 92 tackles as a senior and two interceptions. He was team captain and was named First-Team All-Region, First-Team All-District and Second-Team All-State.

A National Honor Society member and winner of the Northern Virginia Football Hall of Fame Scholarship, Economics is his intended field of study. He served his school as a member of the Freshman Mentoring program as well as the Best Buddies club. Colella also participated in Stars Showcase Baseball in Manassas, Va.


Dawson

Jack Dawson (Spring Lake, N.J./Manasquan)
will bring his pitching skills to the Leopard rotation. In 2022, Dawson compiled a 2-1 record in 20.2 innings pitched, with a 1.35 ERA, striking out 29. He plans to major in Economics.

Dawson is a member of the Key Club and peer leader for Manasquan High School, and played for the Jersey Shore Wildcats in Manasquan during the summer.


Doubek

Brandon Doubek (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia)
will join the Lafayette roster as a catcher. Doubek, a two-year starter behind the plate, hit .449 in 2022, with five home runs and 33 RBIs. He was selected to First-Team All-Division and Second-Team All-County, and is a captain of the team in 2023.

Doubek intends to pursue a degree in Environmental Studies. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned a place on the high honor roll. Doubek is a talented violinist who has been playing the violin for eleven years and has performed at Lincoln Center in New York City. He also volunteers playing the violin at retirement homes in his community.

Doubek has played on the North Jersey Cardinals and US Elite teams.

 

Dutra

Trevor Dutra (Rye Brook, N.Y./Iona Prep/Monroe College)
is a first baseman and outfielder. In 2022, Dutra batted .301 with a home run and 23 RBI's. He was selected to the 2019 PBR Futures game.

Dutra, who intends to major in Government and Law, is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Foreign Language Honor Society, as well as being a member of the Italian club.


Grace

Ryan Grace (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain)
will join the Maroon and White as an infielder. During his scholastic career, Grace has batted .350 and compiled a 1.98 ERA on the mound, and was named to the Pottsville Republican Herald All-Area team.  He has also been a two-year member of the Eagles' varsity basketball program, playing forward, and winning the 2023 Schuylkill League Championship.

Grace is intending to major in Government & Law, and is the Student Council president and the student body president, as well as an honor roll selection. He has been a member of the Real Ballers National team.


Holder

Jeremiah Holder (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle)
is an outfielder and a pitcher. He is a National Honor Society member, an honor roll selection and is also a member of the Latin Honor Society. As a ministry leader for his church, Holder leads his youth group, as well as participating in Ministry for the Homeless. Holder plans to major in Government & Law.  He has also played on Team Citius Baseball.

 

Koczwara

Mason Koczwara (Bay Harbor Islands, Fla./Pine Crest)
will join the Leopards' pitching rotation. He is a five-year varsity member of the Pine Crest baseball team, serving as a team captain. Koczwara is an honor roll student who plans to pursue a major in Engineering. He volunteers with the local community center. Koczwara has played for Elite National Baseball during the summer.


Kovatch

Greyson Kovatch (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown West)
comes into the Lafayette program as both a pitcher and outfielder. During his high school career, Kovatch batted .290, clubbed eight home runs and compiled a 21-19 record on the mound. He was selected Second-Team All-Chesmont as a sophomore.

Kovatch plans to study Mechanical Engineering. He is an active member of the Downingtown West Bocce team and serves as the Whippets' sports photographer. He has played on the West Chester Dragons and the Evoshield Canes National Scout teams.


Milewski

John Mileweski (Framingham, Mass./Belmont Hill)
comes to Easton as a three-sport athlete in high school, and will concentrate his talents on the mound for Lafayette. He is a four-year varsity letter winner in baseball and basketball, was selected as a captain of the baseball and basketball teams for 2023, and was a member of the football team for one year. On the mound as a junior, Mileweski pitched 33.2 innings with 2.50 ERA and 39 strikeouts, holding opponents to a .201 batting average. He was named a 2023 top returning Independent School League (ISL) player by the New England Baseball Journal.

An honor roll selection, Mileweski intends to major in Government & Law. He has played for the New England Ruffnecks during the summer.


Robertson

Nick Robertson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic)
will join the Leopards' rotation as a pitcher. He is a three-year starter, who as a junior had a 1.40 ERA in 48.1 innings pitched, with 76 strikeouts. Robertson was a second-team WPIAL selection.

Named to the high honor roll three years in a row, Robertson plans to major in Biology. He has volunteered with the Miracle League, Play-It-Forward and Red Door Ministry. During the summer, Robertson played for the Pittsburgh Stars.


Rodgers

Chase Rodgers (Dana Point, Calif./Dana Hills)
comes to Lafayette as a pitcher. A two-year starter and team captain, as a junior he compiled a 1-0 record with a 3.09 ERA and struck out 13. Rodgers is a four-time winner of the Dana Hills scholar-athlete award.

Rodgers is an honor roll selection and will pursue a degree in Economics. He is a student member of the California Scholarship Federation and has played for the SoCal Birds travel team.


Young

Ethan Young (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Seton Hall Prep/Bergen County Community College)
is a junior college transfer who will join the Leopards as a corner infielder and outfielder. In 2022, he was selected to the GSAC All-Academic team and the Region 19 All-Academic team.

An honor roll selection, Young intends to major in both Economics and Government & Law. He officiates for both junior and collegiate ice hockey.
