EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette women's lacrosse team chased Bucknell to the final minutes, in a 17-15 loss inside Fisher Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Clare Culligan and
Sara Rogers paced the Leopards with three goals apiece. Culligan grabbed one draw control and made two free-position shots, while Rogers added a ground ball.
Both teams traded goals in the first period, until the Bison made a 4-0 run at the end of the quarter to take an 8-3 lead.
Genevieve Strobel and Culligan (2) found the net prior to halftime, but Bucknell stayed persistent and added four goals, three of which were from free-position attempts, for a 12-6 advantage at the buzzer.
Lafayette cut the deficit to four goals, 15-11, at the end of the third quarter thanks to Rogers,
Sarah Bennett,
Sophia Spallone (2) and Strobel.
Today's contest continued with a large number of Leopards on the board, as
Meghan McLachlan,
Abby Romano,
Kerry Tuorto and Culligan tallied goals in the fourth period. Despite a strong second half of offensive play and the Leopard defense holding the Bison to only five scores, Bucknell took the 17-15 final.
Bucknell held the advantage in draw controls (20-16), ground balls (21-15) and shots (38-26). In clears, the Bison went 8-10 and the Leopards went 14-18. Lafayette made six free-position shots, while Bucknell totaled eight.

Lexie Coldiron made 15 saves, while her Bucknell counterpart, Symone Ryans, made eight.
The Leopards travel to Navy on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contest.
