EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team split its doubleheader on Sunday with the Navy, winning the first game 8-0 before dropping the second game, 6-4.

In game one, the Leopards jumped out to a two-run lead in the second, when freshman
Parker Walsh drew a walk with the bases-loaded and then later in the inning senior
Kyle Chmielewski scored on a wild pitch to give Lafayette a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Lafayette added to its tally. Senior
Pete Ciuffreda walked to lead off the inning. Sophomore
Michael Zarrillo blasted a two-run home run over the fence in right field to give the Leopards a 4-0 lead. The home run was the second of the season for Zarrillo.
The Maroon and White extended their lead in the fifth. Ciuffreda drew a walk and then two batters later Zarrillo ripped a triple to left center field, scoring Ciuffreda. Chmielewski lined an RBI-single up the middle and freshman
Ethan Swidler hit an RBI-double down the left field line, making the score 7-0.
In the sixth, Lafayette added another run on a sacrifice fly by Ciuffreda, bringing the final score to 8-0.

Senior
Alex Walsh was dominant on the mound for the Leopards, throwing a complete game shutout. The Ashburn, Va. native surrendered just three hits in seven innings of work while striking out eight and walking one. Walsh collects his second win of the season for the Leopards. Matthew Shirah took the loss for the Midshipmen.
In game two, Navy took a 1-0 Lead in the first, when Alex Smith drove in the game's first run on an RBI-single through the left side.
The Midshipmen extended their lead in the second, scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI-single by Brock Murtha to take a 3-0 lead.
Lafayette responded with a run in the top of the fifth, when with the bases-loaded junior
Blaze Fadio hit a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home senior
Patrick Vandenbergh from third and made the score 3-1.
Navy added on two more runs to its tally in the bottom of the fifth, on a home run by Logan Keller and an RBI-double by Colin Smith, bringing the score to 5-1.nIn the sixth, the Midshipmen added another run to their tally on a sacrifice fly by Murtha, giving Navy a 6-1 lead.
Lafayette came back with two runs in the eighth. Zarrillo singled up the middle and then Chimelewski belted a two-run home to right field to bring the score to 6-3.
In the ninth, Lafayette put runners on second and third with one out. Sophomore
Ben Petrone hit an RBI-groundout, but the Leopards could not push across any more runs, making the final score 6-4.

Thomas Russell earned the win for Navy. Freshman
Luke Craytor took the loss for Lafayette, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up four hits and three runs.
The Lafayette Nine returns to action Tuesday, hosting Penn for the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
