EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette baseball recorded a 6-5 victory over Penn on Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinal of the Liberty Bell Classic at Kamine Stadium.

A.J. Miller. "Across the board, we played clean, sound baseball. I know that when we play that way, we have a chance to win every single game that we play. I'm excited and happy for the guys today."
Penn took the lead in the top of the first, when Cole Palis scored on a wild pitch and Davis Baker hit an RBI-double.
In the bottom of the second, Lafayette got a run back. Senior
Patrick Vandenbergh doubled to left field to lead off the inning and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Freshman
James Aselta hit an RBI-groundout to shortstop, making the score 2-1.
Penn responded with a run in the top of the third, when Palis again scored on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the fourth, Lafayette's offense came alive. With runners on second and third, junior
Michael Mallas hit a sacrifice fly to left field which scored sophomore
Ben Petrone from third. Later in the inning, senior
Kyle Chmielewski hit an infield single, which allowed senior
Patrick Vandenbergh to score from second after a Penn error. With the bases loaded, sophomore
Michael Zarrillo drew a walk, scoring freshman
Parker Walsh from third and giving Lafayette a 4-3 lead.
The Leopards extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Mallas singled to left field and Aselta lined an RBI-double to left center field. Walsh ripped a single that scored Aselta from second and gave Lafayette a 6-3 advantage.
The Quakers struck back with two runs in the seventh, trimming the Leopards' advantage to score 6-5.
In the top of the ninth, senior
Dylan Siesky shut the door on Penn, striking out the side and sealing the victory.
Chase Barley earned his first collegiate win for the Leopards, pitching two innings while surrendering only one hit and recording a strikeout. Siesky recorded his first collegiate save for the Leopards, pitching a scoreless ninth. Bryce Mangene took the loss for the Quakers.
The Leopards will travel to rival Lehigh on Friday to start a four-game series with the Mountain Hawks at 3:30 p.m.
