Abby Romano scored the game-winning goal against Canisius women's lacrosse during the second period of overtime at Fisher Stadium on Saturday morning for a 10-9 final.
Two goals from
Sara Rogers in the first period, combined with one apiece by
Charlotte Edwards and
Sarah Bennett, gave the Leopards a 4-2 advantage after the first period.
Canisius took the first two goals of the second period, but
Genevieve Strobel and
Katie Chiasson found equalizers late in the quarter. The Maroon and White led 6-4 going into the locker room at halftime.
The Golden Griffins made a 3-0 run down to the 10-minute mark in the third period for their first lead of the game, 7-6. Lafayette's Strobel and Bennett snuffed it out with a pair of goals for an 8-7 advantage with one quarter remaining to play.
Clare Culligan scored the lone Leopard tally of the fourth period, while Canisius'Â Paige Stachura recorded two goals to send the contest to overtime with 43 seconds on the clock in regulation.
Neither team found the net in the first three-minute period of extra play.

Lafayette held the advantage in draw controls (19-5), ground balls (16-11) and shots (42-19). The Golden Griffins, who entered the game with just one loss, were 15-21 in clears, while Lafayette went 9-10.
Lafayette's junior goalkeeper
Lexie Coldiron made four saves in the victory. Her Canisius counterpart, Jody Chu, made 17.
The Leopards travel to Iona on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. contest.
