Strobel and Culligan led the Leopards on the road

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Lafayette women's lacrosse team fought the Holy Cross Crusaders to the final minutes on Saturday afternoon on Kuzniewski Field in an 11-10 defeat.

Clare Culligan and Genevieve Strobel led the Leopards on the road, as the duo scored four goals and added two assists for a combined six points.

Culligan and Sophia Spallone put the Leopards on the board for their first lead of the game at 9:27 in the first quarter, 2-1. The Crusaders rallied to end the period with a slim 3-2 advantage.

Lafayette outscored Holy Cross 4-3 in the second quarter for a 6-6 tie at the halftime buzzer. Strobel found the net at 7:49, prior to a 3-0 Leopard run starting at 5:30 that was fueled by Culligan, Sarah Bennett and Katie Chiasson.

Two goals from each team kept the contest knotted at 8-8 with five minutes of play remaining in the third period. Strobel, assisted by her classmate Meghan McLachlan, netted the go-ahead goal with six seconds on the clock for a 9-8 advantage going into the final quarter.

Despite Kerry Tuorto's score at 7:03, the Crusaders added two tallies by Henna Brennan by the four-minute mark for a 10-10 tie. Both teams had opportunities on goal, but Holy Cross' Christine Fabrizi scored the game winner while the program was a man-up at 1:09.
