EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette baseball team defeated Bucknell 17-11 in a high-scoring contest on Sunday at Hilton Rahn '51 Field at Kamine Stadium.
The Leopards' offensive attack was led by senior Seif Ingram who had four hits, three RBIs and scored three runs. Junior Blaze Fadio had two hits drove in five runs drew two walks and scoried two runs while stealing two bases.
Bucknell started the scoring in the top of the first, tallying four runs in the frame on a two-run double by Tyler Dunn and a two-run home run to left field by Billy Kendar.
Lafayette responded with two runs in the bottom half of the first, when Ingram lined a two-run triple to right center field that scored senior Pete Ciuffreda and sophomore Easton Brenner, to make the score 4-2.
In the second, the Bison added two more runs on a sacrifice fly Jacob Corson and an RBI-single to left center by Sean Keys, bringing the score to 6-2.
In the bottom of the second, Brenner hit a sacrifice fly to center field which allowed sophomore Michael Mallas to score and made the tally 6-3.
Bucknell again responded with two runs in the fourth on an RBI-double to right center by Grant Voytovich.
In the fifth, Lafayette's offense came alive. With one out and the bases loaded, senior Kyle Chmielewski was hit by a pitch which allowed Ingram to score. Mallas drew a walk and then Fadio hit a two-run single to left field to make the score 8-7.
The Lafayette offense kept up the pressure in the sixth, scoring four runs in the inning. Ciuffreda singled to lead-off the frame and was followed by Zarrillo who blasted a two-run home run to right field, to give Lafayette a 9-8 lead. The home run was Zarrillo's fifth home run of the season. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Fadio lined a two-run double down the left field line, scoring Chmielewski and senior Patrick Vandenbergh and extending the Leopard's lead to 11-8.
Bucknell responded with three runs of its own in the top of the seventh, scoring on an RBI-double by Chris Klein and a two-run double Nic Adamo to cut Lafayette's lead to 11-10.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Leopards responded with four runs, scoring on two RBI-doubles down the left field line by Ingram and Vandenbergh, and two walks with the bases loaded to Mallas and Fadio.
In the eighth, Bucknell added one more run on a solo home run to left field by Voytovich.
Lafayette added two more insurance runs in the eighth, scoring on a two-run single to left field by Chmielewski, which made the score 17-11.
Junior Adam Bogosian pitched a scoreless ninth, which brought the final tally to 17-11. Chase Barley collected his third win of the year for the Leopards, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up three hits, one run and striking out one. Hadley Maxwell took the loss for the Bison.
Lafayette is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Navy for a three-game series that starts at noon.
