Bednar Named National League All-Star

Former Leopard righty earns second MLB All-Star Game appearance

SEATTLE, Wash. - Former Lafayette pitcher, David Bednar '17, has been named to the 2023 MLB All-Star Game and will represent the Pittsburgh Pirates and the National League in the mid-summer classic for the second consecutive year.

The Mars, Pa. native will take the spot on the All-Star Game roster held by Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw, who is on the injured list.

Bednar has become one of the best relievers in baseball, amassing a 3-0 record with a 1.36 ERA , recording 15 saves, 39 strikeouts, while holding opposing batters to a .205 average across 33 innings of work.

During his time on College Hill, Bednar compiled 188 strikeouts to rank third on the all-time career strikeouts list in Lafayette baseball history. He had back-to-back 70-strikeout seasons in his final two years with the Leopards, good for sixth on the single-season strikeouts list.

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game takes place on Tuesday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET from T-Mobile Park in Seattle and will air live on FOX.
