Leopards Drop Road Match at Stony Brook 3-1

Schauder scores her second goal of the season

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Lafayette women's soccer dropped a 3-1 decision at Stony Brook on Thursday at LaValle Stadium.

Stony Brook maintained possession for much of the first half, and in the 14th minute the Seawolves got on the board when a shot from the right side of the box by Gabrielle Cote was deflected into the goal by a Leopard, giving Stony Brook a 1-0 lead. The Seawolves took nine shots in the first 45 minutes, while the Leopards were credited with one. Lafayette senior Lindsay Dewar recorded three saves, while Stony Brook's Nicolette Pasquarella tallied one.

In the second half, the Seawolves continued to put pressure on the Lafayette defense. In the 55th minute, Stony Brook added to its lead. Reilly Rich received a long through-ball from Luciana Setteducate, which allowed Rich to get behind the Lafayette defense and place a shot past Dewar, to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead.

In the 66th minute, Cote broke free on the right side of the goal and ripped a shot into the back of the net, increasing Stony Brook's lead to 3-0.

Lafayette responded in the 72nd minute. A foul in the box on a corner kick resulted in a penalty kick for the Leopards. Senior Rory Schauder took the penalty kick and sent a shot past the outstretched arms of Pasquarella, which brought the final tally to 3-1.

Lafayette ended the day with seven shots, two of which were on goal. Stony Brook had 17 shots, with nine on goal. The Leopards were awarded one corner, while the Seawolves had three. Senior Sara Oswald tallied two shots for the Leopards, while junior Gretchen Waechter, sophomore Katrina Santelli, sophomore Ashley Martinho, freshman Nadia Zaffanella and Schauder, all had one shot each.

Dewar and her Stony Brook counterpart, Pasquarella, both played the full 90 minutes. Dewar recorded seven saves, while Pasquarella had one.  

The Leopards return to Easton on Thursday, when the host St. Joseph's at 7 p.m., at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
