EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette men's soccer dropped its Patriot League opener 1-0 to Colgate in a hard-fought, physical contest, on Saturday at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards played stellar defense and controlled time of possession in the first half, preventing Colgate from scoring. Lafayette recorded four shots in the half, but was unable to find the back of the net.
The Raiders only had one shot on goal in the match, but they made the most of it. In the 63rd minute. Off of a corner kick by Connor Cates, Aiden Davock chipped a shot past the outstretched arms of Lafayette goalkeeper junior
Griffin Huff, to give Colgate a 1-0 lead.
Lafayette continued to press the action in the second half, recording six shots in the second stanza, but it was unable to get the equalizer in the 1-0 final.
The evening ended with Lafayette recording 10 shots, five of which were on goal. Colgate had two shots, with one on goal. The Leopards were awarded five corners, while the Raiders had seven. Junior

Huff started the match for Lafayette and played the full 90 minutes. His Colgate counterpart, Andrew Cooke, also played the full 90 minutes, and recorded five saves.
Lafayette continues its season on Tuesday, when its travels to Albany at 7 p.m.
