EASTON, Pa.- Coming off a Patriot League-opening win over Holy Cross on Friday
, the Lafayette volleyball team was defeated in straight sets (25-15, 25-10, 25-20) by Army on Saturday evening inside Kirby Sports Center.
Junior
Phoebe Glass led the Leopards in kills with five, adding one dig. Freshman
Emma Patmon and senior
Gracie Gibson tallied four kills each.
After dropping the first set, (25-15) the Leopards were tied 4-4 thanks to kills from senior
Alyssa Vitale, freshman
Irelynd Lorenzen and Gibson. With the score at 15-9 in favor of Army, the Black Knights got hot. Army went on a 5-0 run to extend its lead. Paige Fiexmer led Army with nine kills, adding one solo block and one block assist. Army won the second set 25-10.
The third set was very back-and-forth containing six tie scores and three lead changes. Army led 19-18 before a kill from sophomore
Hannah Ehrich-Pollock tied the match. Army kept on firing and took the third set 25-20.
Lafayette returns to College Hill at 7 p.m. on Saturday to face Bucknell, inside Kirby Sports Center.
