JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Lafayette women's soccer team picked up its fourth win of the year, shutting out St. Peter's on Sunday, 4-0, at Jaroschak Field.
The Leopards wasted no time in getting on the board, as freshman
Nadia Zaffanella started the scoring in the 10
th minute. Zaffanella received a perfectly placed through-ball by junior
Alexa Jindal, that put the Ellington, Conn. native on the doorstep of the goal, where she sent a shot past the Peacocks' keeper into the low left corner of the goal.
Five minutes later, Lafayette continued its hot start. In the 15
th minute, a St. Peter's foul led to a free kick from just outside the right side of the box. Senior
Emily Coe triggered the set piece which found sophomore
Katrina Santelli, who then headed the ball into the goal, increasing Lafayette's lead to 2-0.
Lafayette's offense did not cool off after the halftime break. Four minutes into the second half, senior
Lauren Cunningham found an open lane to the goal down the left side of the field. After taking the ball into the box, Cunningham attempted to pass, but it was deflected right back to her. Cunningham then sent a shot on goal that was blocked by Peacocks' goalie Annabelle Adams, only to have the ball come right back to her. Cunningham did not miss the second opportunity, rocketing a shot into the low left corner of the goal, for her first collegiate tally. The Leopards led 3-0.
The Leopards were not finished. In the 72
nd minute, senior
Sara Oswald added another goal for the Maroon and White. A corner kick by Coe ping-ponged around the box before finding Oswald, who chipped the ball into the goal, to make the score 4-0.
