Women's Soccer Falls to American 2-0

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette women's soccer dropped its match 2-0 to American on Saturday at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.

Lafayette had the match's best scoring opportunity in the first half. Freshman Nadia Zaffanella had an open shot on the goal, but her attempt went just wide, hitting the right goal post.

The Leopards had six shots in the first half, while American had five.

In the 73rd minute, after a shot by Avery Klingensmith, Fasayo Iluyomade sent the rebound into the back of the goal, scoring the first goal of the game and giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

In the 88th minute, American added to its lead. Lailah Stewart found a lane to the goal and rocketed a shot to the back of the net for the 2-0 final.

Lafayette ended the evening with eight shots, two of which were on goal. American had 19 shots, with 12 on goal. The Leopards were awarded six corners, while the Eagles had five. Zaffanella recorded three shots for the Leopards. Senior Sara Oswald had two, while senior Lauren Cunningham, junior Alexa Jindal and sophomore Katrina Santelli all had one shot each.  

Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Dewar started the match for the Leopards and played the full 90 minutes, recording 10 saves. American goalie Julia Kato recorded two saves in 90 minutes. 

The Leopards next travel to Boston University on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match.
