ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Lafayette volleyball team defeated Navy in five sets (26-24, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17, 15-10) to capture its seventh win of the season.
Freshman
Emma Patmon led the way with 16 kills, hitting .324. Senior
Gracie Gibson was a force on defense, tallying four solo blocks and five block assists.
In the first set, the score was tied at 16 apiece, before Patmon gave the Leopards the lead with a kill assisted by fellow freshman
Anna Van Wyk. Navy rallied, however, to take the first set 26-24.
The Maroon and White started the second set with a 3-0 lead thanks to a kill from junior
Phoebe Glass and a pair of attack errors from Navy. Freshman
Ally Feczko eventually won the set for Lafayette with a kill assisted from senior
Alyssa Vitale. Vitale finished the match with 19 assists.
The Leopards were winning 19-14, before kills from Patmon and Gibson added a kill each to take a four point lead. Gibson's four kills and two solo blocks in the fourth set propelled the Leopards to taking the set 25-17.
Lafayette continued its momentum into the fifth set. With the score tied at 3-3, three attack errors from Navy extended the Leopards' lead to 6-3. Gibson eventually ended the match with a kill assisted by Vitale.
Lafayette returns home at 7 p.m. on Friday to face Loyola inside Kirby Sports Center.
