Leopards Fall to Bucknell, 65-58

Antognoli, Smith and Donahue all finish in double figures

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Juniors Abby Antognoli and Halee Smith scored 17 points apiece in a loss at Bucknell on Saturday afternoon in Sojka Pavilion.

Ashley Sofilkanich, Emma Theodorsson, Grace Sullivan and Ashley O'Connor all finished with double digit points for the Bison. O'Connor netted 12 points, shooting 4-for-4 from downtown.

The Bison jumped out to an early 12-7 after O'Connor drained a three-pointer with 5:29 remaining in the first. Senior forward Kayla Drummonds' layup with 3:20 to go, started an 8-3 run for the Leopards. After 10 minutes of play, Lafayette trailed by three, 20-17.

Lafayette opened the second quarter with a huge 13-0 spurt, which propelled it to its largest lead of the game (10) with 4:28 left in the half. Makayla Andrews, Antognoli, Smith, Drummond and Kay Donahue all scored during the six minute run.

Bucknell responded with a 5-2 run of its own, cutting the Maroon and White's advantage to just seven points at halftime (32-25).

Theodorsson tied the ballgame (32-32) at the 8:23 mark in the third quarter with a turnaround jumper. The next several minutes were back-and-forth by both squads, but Bucknell took an 11-point lead (45-34) at the 3:32 mark thanks to a triple from Isabella King. The Bison led 51-40 at the end of the third quarter.

Sullivan gave Bucknell its largest lead of the game (15 points) after making a layup with 6:55 left. The Leopards pushed the tempo in the final minutes of the game, but were unable to come within striking distance in a 65-58 final. .

A big difference in Saturday's conference matchup was three-point shooting and rebounding. Bucknell shot an efficient 53.3 percent from downtown compared to the Leopards' 33.3 percent while the Bison out-rebounded Lafayette 30-21.

The Maroon and White returns home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday for a matchup against the Loyola Greyhounds.
