Makayla Andrews and
Abby Antognoli led the Leopards' offense Wednesday night, combining for 34Â points in a 67-60 Patriot League loss to Loyola in Kirby Sports Center.
Andrews (18 points) became the 20
th Lafayette women's basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone on Wednesday night. The last player to reach the achievement was Natalie Kucowski in 2020. With 9:46 remaining in the third quarter, Andrews' turnaround jumper propelled her to 1,001 points.
Laura Salmeron led Loyola's offense with 21Â points, while Lex Therien added 17Â points on 7-for-11 shooting.
Lafayette took an early 7-3 lead with 4:56 to go in the first quarter, after Andrews knocked down a triple. Salmeron's five first period points kept the Greyhounds afloat, but the Leopards held a 14-12 advantage after 10 minutes.
The Leopards kept firing to open the second quarter, going on a 10-0 run.

Sauda Ntaconayigize (six points) and Andrews all contributed to the Leopards' largest lead of the game (24-12). Loyola continued to battle and a three-pointer by Meliah Van-Otoo cut its deficit to six points at halftime (30-24).
The first six minutes of second half action were back-and-forth. A second chance bucket by Therien reduced Lafayette's lead to six points with 2:41 remaining in the third period. Salmeron's fast-break layup with one second left cut the Leopards' lead to two points (46-44) with 10 minutes left to play.
Halee Smith (eight points) started the final quarter with a triple assisted by Antognoli. The Greyounds took their fourth lead of the game after Van-Otoo finished her driving layup with 7:08 remaining. From that point on, Loyola never lost the lead. A three-pointer by Smith with 38 seconds left reduced Loyola's lead to three points, but the Leopards could not complete the comeback.
On the night, Loyola forced 21 Leopard turnovers, including 11 in the fourth quarter. The Leopards shot 47 percent from the floor compared to Loyola's 57-percent night.Â
Lafayette begins its two-game road swing at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Boston U.
