Leopards return to Patriot League action on Saturday at American

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Lafayette women's soccer team was defeated by Princeton, 3-0, in its non-conference finale on Tuesday at Roberts Stadium.

Princeton got into the scoring column in the 17th minute when Kate Toomey sent a corner into the box and then Zoe Markesini chipped a pass to Brooke Dawahare. Dawahare blasted a shot into the back of the net, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Princeton played terrific defense in the first 45 minutes of play, holding Lafayette to just one shot in the first half and taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Tigers added to their tally in the 51st minute. Lafayette was called for a handball in the box, for which Princeton was awarded a penalty kick. Isabella Garces took a straight-on shot and gave the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

In the 88th minute, the Tigers again added to their lead. A scoring opportunity by Pietra Tordin was deflected to Alexandra Barry, who ripped a shot into the left corner of the goal, bringing Princeton's tally to 3-0.

The Leopards finished the evening with five shots and Princeton had 25. Lafayette had two shots on goal, while the Tigers had 13. The Leopards had two corners and the Tigers had seven. The Maroon and White were led by senior Alexa Jindal and junior April McDonald, who both had a shot on goal.

Sophomore Catherine Apker played the first 45 minutes and recorded two saves, while junior Maddie Miniutti started the second half for the Maroon and White and was credited with seven saves. Princeton goalie Cecilia Cerone played the full 90 minutes and had two saves.

The Leopards are next in action when they travel to American on Saturday for a match beginning at 1 p.m.
