Navy Beats Leopards in Five Sets

Lafayette returns home at 6 p.m. on Saturday to take on Bucknell

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy downed Lafayette volleyball on Saturday (25-21, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19, 15-9) in the team's ninth Patriot League contest of the season.

Through the first 18 points, neither side could find an advantage (9-9), but then the Mids put together three-straight points courtesy of an Ally Alessio ace and an Anuhea Hauanio-Lore kill. The Leopards trailed 14-10 prior to taking a two-point lead (16-14) after a six-point spurt, featuring four attack errors by the Mids. Navy ended up taking the set 25-21, gaining momentum with a five-point run down the stretch.

Farrah Eike had a career-high 27 kills for Navy and seven of them came in the second set. Both teams hit above .300 in the second period, but Lafayette's three service errors were crucial in the long run. Sophomore middle blocker Hannah Ehrich-Pollock had four kills in five attempts in the set, but Eike recorded back-to-back kills to end the period, 25-21.

Sophomore outside hitter Emma Patmon guided the Maroon and White to a 25-23 third-set victory with five kills. Navy hopped out to an early 10-7 lead, but the Leopards quickly tied it at 11 apiece through some Navy errors and a kill by freshman Paige Chmura. The Economics major finished with contest with 11 kills for the second time this season against the Mids.

The Leopards didn't trail for a single point in the fourth set. Freshmen Destiny McKenzie (4) and Chmura (4) combined for eight kills in the period and Lafayette tallied three-more kills (13-10) than the hosts. The Leopards comfortably took the fourth set, 25-19.

In the fifth set, the game was notched at four apiece before a two-point run gave Navy some separation. McKenzie and Ehrich-Pollock both grabbed kills for Lafayette, but Navy capped of the victory with a 5-2 run to gain its fourth win of the year.

The Leopards return to Kirby Sports Center at 6 p.m. on Saturday for a meeting with Bucknell.
