EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette women's soccer was outlasted by Bucknell, 2-1, on Saturday at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium on Senior Day. Before the match, the nine members of the Lafayette women's soccer class of 2025 were honored.
The Bison struck first in the 16
th minute, when Reece Evans chipped a shot into the back of the goal to give Bucknell a 1-0 lead. Teresa Deda was credited with an assist on the goal.
The Leopards took two shots in the first half, one by junior
April McDonald and another by senior
Michaela Salvati.
In the second half, it took just seven minutes of play for Bucknell to extend its lead. Deda broke away from the Lafayette defense and had a one-on-one opportunity with Lafayette sophomore goalkeeper
Catherine Apker. Deda basted a strike into the goal, making the Bison tally 2-0.
The Leopards responded in the 76
th minute. Senior
Abby Miles sent a ball into the box that ping-ponged around, but then finally found senior
Gretchen Waechter. Waechter ripped a shot into the middle part of the goal, past Bucknell goalkeeper Jess Benattar, making the score 2-1. The goal was Waechter's first of the season.
Lafayette was unable to tie the score in the ensuing 14 minutes of play, and the final score remained 2-1.
Lafayette finished the evening with five shots to Bucknell's seven. The Leopards had three shots on goal and two corners, while the Bison had six shots on goal with four corners.
Apker played the full 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves. Benattar also played 90 minutes and was credited with two saves.
The Leopards are next in action when they host Navy on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
