EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette men's lacrosse team defeated Hampton 22-2 in the team's home opener Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium.
Lafayette held the Pirates scoreless in the first period, scoring eight unanswered goals. All eight of the Leopards' goals were scored by different players. Senior captain
Charlie Cunniffe found the back of the net once in the first 15 minutes, while supplying three assists.
Darius Stanley found the back of the net for Hampton in the second quarter, but the Maroon and White outscored the Pirates 4-1. Senior captain

John Mathes added goals. Lafayette led 12-1 at the intermission.
The Leopards kept firing on all cylinders in the second half. Between the third and fourth quarters, Lafayette outscored Hampton 10-1. Sophomore attacker
Aidan Best opened his account for the season in the fourth period, ripping back-to-back goals with just five minutes remaining in the contest.
Freshmen

Luke Breitenecker and Morelli all scored their first collegiate goals on Saturday.

Joe Doherty made his second start of the season, tallying a team-high five saves along the way.
Gabe Cummins and
Ben Howard also featured in goal for the Maroon and White.
Lafayette held a 23-3 advantage on face-offs. Junior
Evan Prince went 10-11, while also grabbing a team-high seven ground balls. Senior

Nick Faccone each contributed to the Leopards' face-off total.
The Maroon and White continue their four-game homestand at 7:30 on Tuesday against Drexel.
