Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Wagner, 15-9

Albrecht and Romano net five goals apiece in first victory of the season

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season at Wagner, 15-9, on Wednesday evening at Hameline Field.

Senior midfielder Abby Romano and junior attacker Haleigh Albrecht each had a career evening, leading the squad with five goals for five points during the road contest.

The Leopards led 4-3 after the first quarter, using one goal apiece from Romano, Albrecht, Sara Rogers and Sophia Spallone.

Wagner opened the second period to tie the game, 5-5, with a pair of goals by Kelsey Scheidel and Sydney Ecker, bookending Sara Rogers' tally at the 13-minute mark.

Lafayette proceeded to make a 3-0 run that included two shots by Albrecht for the Leopards' first hat trick of the season at 6:46.

Wagner closed out the first half with a score by Alex Wright at 3:43 as the Maroon and White earned an 8-6 advantage at the break.

The Leopards outscored the Seahawks 3-2 in the third period to lead 11-8. All three goals came from Romano, a senior midfielder.

To stay out of reach, Lafayette made a 4-0 run down to the nine-minute mark in the final period. Goals came from Albrecht (2), Romano and Olivia Hover.

Lafayette held the advantage in ground balls (25-14), shots (27-20) and clears (15-15 to 17-20).

Lafayette's senior goalkeeper Lexie Coldiron made six saves, while her Seahawk counterparts, Bryn Brockstie and Grace DeCarolis, made three and four, respectively.

Next up, the Leopards face Central Connecticut State on Feb. 28 for the 2024 home opener in Fisher Stadium. Opening draw will take place at 7:30 p.m.
