Women’s Lacrosse Overpowers Central Connecticut State

Romano leads the Leopards to a mid-week victory

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team overpowered Central Connecticut State, 14-4, on Wednesday evening in a rainy Fisher Stadium.

Senior midfielder Abby Romano commanded the Leopards with three goals, two ground balls and a draw control.

Lafayette outscored the Blue Devils 3-2 in the first quarter using goals from Romano, Sophia Spallone and Sara Rogers.

Romano spearheaded a 4-0 second period as the Maroon and White held a 7-2 advantage at halftime.

Each program netted a goal in the third quarter. Clare Culligan scored her first of the day for Lafayette while Lauren Valluzzi earned Central Connecticut State's third tally.

The Leopards closed out the final period with six goals, bookending the Blue Devils' last goal at 65:31. Culligan, Spallone, Romano, Rogers, Kendra Daly and Olivia Kelley all chipped in to the stat sheet to secure Lafayette's second victory of the young season.

Lafayette held the advantage in draw controls (11-10), ground balls (29-23), shots (50-17) and clears (19-20 to 17-26).

Lafayette's senior goalkeeper Lexie Coldiron made six saves in the victory. Her Blue Devil counterpart, Kya Risher, made 22.

Next up, the Leopards host Bryant on Saturday for the Athlete Ally game. Opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
