EUGENE, Ore. – The Lafayette baseball team concluded its series with Oregon, falling 12-2 on Sunday at P. K. Park.
The Ducks once again struck first. In the bottom of the first, Oregon scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead. Oregon added to its lead in the second, pushing five runs across the plate.
The Leopards got into the scoring column in the third, when junior
Easton Brenner walked and freshman
Matt Colella doubled down the left field line. Junior
Blaze Fadio drove in Brenner on an RBI-groundout, to make the score 6-1.
Lafayette cut into Oregon's lead again in the fifth, when freshman
Jeremiah Holder lined a solo home run to left field. It was the first collegiate home run for Holder.
The Ducks continued swing hot bats, scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth, four more in the seventh and another run in the eighth, bringing the final tally to 12-2.
Kevin Seitter collected the win for Oregon, while
Corey Savedoff took the loss.
The Leopards are next in action when they return to Easton to take on Rider, on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
