Women’s Hoops Defeated by Navy, 58-49

Andrews and Smith both finish in double figures

EASTON, Pa. – Senior guard Makayla Andrews (18 points) and junior forward Halee Smith (10 points) combined for 28 points in the team's loss to Navy Wednesday evening in Kirby Sports Center.

Zanai Barnett-Gay was the game's leading , posting 23 points, seven boards and four assists for the Mids who led from the opening tip.

The Mids hopped out to an early 6-0 lead, after Barnett-Gay and Kyah Smith knocked down back-to-back triples. Navy continued to score at will, grabbing a 17-2 lead after scoring 11 straight points. At the end of the first quarter, Lafayette trailed 20-7.

Navy took its largest lead of the game (18 points) at the 7:04 mark in the second quarter, after Sydnee Watts knocked down a mid-range jumper. Lafayette's offense outscored the Mids 14-12 in the second quarter, but headed into intermission, trailing 32-21.

The Leopards outscored Navy 17-11 in the third quarter. After Smith drained a jumper at the 7:50 mark, Lafayette scored seven unanswered points, cutting its deficit to three points (35-32). The final three minutes of the third period were back-and-forth. Junior guard Abby Antognoli (eight points) drained a halfcourt heave with one second left, giving Navy just a five-point lead with 10 minutes to go in Easton.

Andrews brought the Leopards within two points (47-45), after making both free throws with 5:31 to go. Lafayette pushed the tempo late in the contest, but Navy's Barnett-Gay and Smith had all the offensive answers for the Mids, scoring two points each to keep Lafayette at bay. When the horn sounded, Navy captured its 11th win of the season.

Lafayette returns to Kirby Sports Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day.
