EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette women's lacrosse fell to Holy Cross in the final minutes, 12-11, on Saturday morning in Fisher Stadium.
The Leopards jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter, using goals by
Haleigh Albrecht (2),
Kristin Igneri,
Kendra Daly and
Sara Rogers.
Holy Cross retaliated with a four-goal streak in the second period as
Olivia Kelley capped a 6-5 advantage at the halftime break.
Lafayette pushed back ahead, 10-5, with a four-goal run, comprised of Rogers' last two scores, by the nine-minute mark in the third quarter. Holy Cross climbed within two goals, 10-8, by the conclusion of the third period.
The Crusaders rallied for four additional goals to Lafayette's one from
Sophia Spallone in the final quarter, stealing the first conference matchup of the season with just 31 seconds on the clock.
The Leopards held the advantage in draw controls (18-9). Holy Cross clamied the statistical advanatge in ground balls (27-18), shots (34-25) and clears (13-13 to 13-18).
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper,
Lexie Coldiron, made seven total saves, surpassing the milestone of 400 career stops. Her Crusader counterparts, Tori Cini and Mackenzie Creagh, made five and one, respectively.
Next up, the Leopards travel to Army on Saturday at 12 p.m.
