Leopards Stalled by Loyola, 18-10

Cunniffe led the Lafayette with three goals and three assists

EASTON, Pa. – The Leopards were led by three goals and three assists by senior captain Charlie Cunniffe, in the team's 18-10 loss Saturday afternoon in Fisher Stadium.

Senior attacker Kalman Kraham opened the scoring at the 11:40 mark off an assist by sophomore Nick Muller. Kraham finished the day with two goals and an assist, bringing him to the 100 career-points milestone.

Loyola took a 4-1 lead with 8:24 remaining in the first quarter, thanks to goals by Matt Dixon, Matt Heuston, and two from Matthew Minicus. The Leopards outscored Loyola (3-2) in the final seven minutes of the period, but the Greyhounds led 6-4 after 15 minutes in Easton.

Lafayette was firing on all cylinders to begin the second quarter. Three-straight goals from seniors Peter Lehman, John Mathes and junior Riley Sullivan, gave the Leopards a 7-6 lead with 8:22 to go in the first half. The Greyhounds ended the half with a 5-1 scoring run, propelling them to a healthy 11-8 lead at the intermission.

The third quarter only saw four goals. Evan James and Joey Kamish fired home early into the quarter, but Cunniffe responded with his third goal of the day at the 7:41 mark. Davis Lindsey found one more goal for Loyola before the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Loyola continued to push the pace in the final quarter. The Greyhounds scored four unanswered goals, courtesy of Adam Poitras, Heuston, James and Minicus. Muller grabbed a late consolation goal with just under five minutes left in the contest. When time expired, Loyola improved to 3-6 and the Leopards fell to 4-4.

Lafayette goalkeepers Joe Doherty (5) and Ben Howard (2) combined for seven saves on Saturday. Luke Staudt made a game-high 10 saves for the Greyhounds and Ben Abel tacked on two more stops in the fourth period.

Freshman Nick Faccone went 14-26 from the x, while picking up a game-high nine ground balls. Eric Pacheco was 17-of-28 on his faceoffs, collecting five ground balls along the way.

The Leopards hit the road next Saturday for a 2 p.m. faceoff at Bucknell.
