EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team was defeated by American, 12-5, on Wednesday evening at Fisher Stadium.
The Eagles were led by Becca Frank with four points on two goals and two assists in their first conference victory.
Abby Romano commanded the Leopards with a pair of goals for two points, just shy of her 50
th career tally.
The Leopards shot out to a 3-1 lead during the first quarter, using scores from Romano,
Sophia Spallone and
Clare Culligan.
The Eagles retaliated with three goals in the second period for a 4-4 tie at the halftime break.
American pushed ahead with an unanswered 7-0 run spanning to the 12-minute mark in the final period to overtake the lead, 11-4.
Despite Romano's final tally at 5:46 in the fourth quarter, the Eagles stayed out of reach in the 12-5 outcome.
American held the advantage in draw controls (13-8), ground balls (22-20), shots (36-27). Lafayette was a perfect 17-for-17 in clears to American's 16-of-18.

Lexie Coldiron made eight saves while her Eagle counterpart, Lexi Rakis, made 12.
Next up, the Leopards travel to Boston U. on Saturday. Opening draw is slated for 12 p.m. in the hunt for the Maroon and White's first Patriot League victory of the season.
