NEWARK, Del.- The Lafayette women's lacrosse team was outscored by Delaware, 13-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Tubby Raymond Field.
Delaware outscored the Leopards 9-1 in the first half as
Clare Culligan put Lafayette on the board at 10:30 in the initial period. Riley Gillin recorded five goals and two assists for the Blue Hens in the opening pair of quarters.
The Maroon and White netted back-to-back goals at 8:04 and 2:37 in the third period, trailing 10-3.
Abby Romano and
Sara Rogers were credited with the scores going into the final 15 minutes of play.
Delaware continued to stay out of reach with a trio of goals by Jaclyn Marszal, Morgan Gore and Riley Sturtevant in the 13-3 final.
The Blue Hens held the advantage in ground balls (33-23), shots (27-11) and clears (27-33 to 21-27). Lafayette edged Delaware in draw controls, 10-9.
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper
Lexie Coldiron made six saves while her Delaware counterparts, Sophia Foohey and Steph Marszal, made one and two, respectively.
Molly Terraciano also shared the net for the Maroon and White.
Next up, the Leopards will host Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
