Leopards Earn Saturday Split with Army

Lafayette claims first conference victory, 3-2, vs. Black Knights

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Lafayette and Army split a softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with the hosts winning the first game 6-2 and the Leopards rebounding with a 3-2 win in the nightcap.

In game one, Army scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 6-2 final. All of the Leopards' scoring came in the sixth inning. Katie Harrington singled in Sabina Lehnert and Harrington later scored on a Kaya Ciccone-Cozart double to right field.

Kailee Sawai was the pitcher of record, surrendering six runs on nine hits over six innings. Sawaii struck out four and walked three.

In game two, Army pushed across two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Parker Llantero delivered a two-run double for the early Black Knights' lead.

In the top of the third, the Leopards got on the board. Megan Coyle plated Olivia Catalina with an RBI-single to bring the Leopards within one, 2-1.

The sixth inning proved to be decisive. Harrington singled and Marisa Powell later scored on an error. Harrington came home a wild pitch which handed the Leopards a 3-2 advantage, which held up.

Lafayette starter Jacqueline Cal was up to the task. She allowed just two runs on three hits on the afternoon, while striking out two, and held the Black Knights scoreless in the final two innings to collect her second win of the season.

The two teams will wrap up the series on with a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
