LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lafayette women's lacrosse chased Bucknell to the final minutes in a 14-13 loss at Graham Field on Wednesday evening.
The Leopards held the upper hand, 5-4, at the end of the first period thanks to goals by
Haleigh Albrecht,
Abby Romano,
Sara Rogers,
Olivia Hover and
Olivia Kelley.
Bucknell outscored the opponents 3-2 before halftime for a 7-7 tie going into the break.
Lafayette found its fire to open the third quarter with a 4-0 run, giving both Rogers and Hover a hat trick to lead 11-7.
The Bison would eventually fire back with a six-goal streak that lasted until 5:42 in the fourth period to hold a 13-11 advantage.
Sophia Spallone was able to score back-to-back goals at 5:07 and 3:25 to knot the game, 13-13, but the Leopards were ultimately downed by Katie Brown's game-winner with four seconds on the clock.
The Maroon and White held the advantage in draw controls (20-9) and shots (30-29). Bucknell had more ground balls (20-16) and clears (20-21 to 17-23).
Senior goalkeeper
Lexie Coldiron stood tall in the Lafayette net, causing crucial turnovers and making nine saves. Her Bison counterpart, Colleen Kazanjian, made 11 saves in total.
Next up, the Leopards host Navy on Saturday for Senior Day. Opening draw will take place at 11 a.m. in Fisher Stadium with the team celebrating the six graduating student-athletes shortly beforehand.
