Lehigh Captures a Pair of 5-0 Decisions on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh took both ends of a Saturday doubleheader with the Leopard softball team by identical 5-0 decisions.

In the first game, Lehigh starter Katelyn Young struck out seven and held the Leopards' offense without a hit.

The Mountain Hawks scored four runs in the third inning, sparked by Emily Cimino's three-run home run off Leopard starter Kailee Sawai. Lehigh added one more run in the third and then another run on a sac fly in the fourth.

Sawai took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over 2.2 innings. Morrigan Gardiner finished off the game, giving up one run on four hits over the final 3.1 innings.

In game two, the Leopards managed five hits: one in the first, second, third, fifth and sixth innings in the 5-0 final.

Lehigh scored all of the offense it needed in the first inning, as Holly Lovett doubled home two for a 3-0 lead.

Lafayette had perhaps its best scoring chance in the sixth inning when Megan Coyle led off the frame with a double. Lehigh reliever Maria Urban was able to entice the Leopards into a pair of groundouts and a lineout to end the scoring chance.

Senior Jacqueline Cal threw the first two innings, allowing four runs on five hits before Sawai made her second appearance of the afternoon. She pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits. Chloe Hess collected the win for Lehigh, scattering four hits over five innings.

Lafayette and Lehigh will wrap up the series on Sunday at noon.
