BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lafayette softball dropped the series finale with Lehigh on Sunday, 7-1.
The hosts scored five runs over the middle innings to take control of the game. Lehigh plated two runs in the third, one on a fielder's choice and the second on Brooke Cannon's RBI-single. In the fourth, Peyton Sward helped extend the lead to 5-0 using a two-run triple.
Trailing 6-0, Lafayette scored its first run of the game in the top of the sixth.
Grace Hausamann led off the inning with a single and
Megan Coyle followed with a double. Rookie
Katie Harrington did the rest of the work, smacking a single to left field for one of the Leopards' six hits in the game.
Lehigh's Katelyn Young stopped the Maroon and White rally after one run, striking out two of the next three batters to end the inning. Young fanned five on the afternoon, while allowing one run on six hits.
Morrigan Gardiner and
Jacqueline Cal split time in the circle for the Leopards, with Gardiner the pitcher of record. Gardiner gave up three earned runs on five hits across 3.1 innings. Cal allowed two earned on two hits over 2.2 innings.
The Leopards will continue in Patriot League play on April 27-28, hosting nationally-ranked Boston U. for a three-game set. Sunday's single game will serve as Senior Day for the Leopards' six members of the Class of 2024.
Lafayette and Lehigh will wrap up the series on Sunday at noon.
