LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team dropped the first game of its three-game series with Bucknell, 12-3, on Friday at Depew Field.
The Bison took the lead in the top of the first, scoring three runs in the inning on an RBI-single by Jacob Corson, a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly.
The Leopards got on the board in the third when junior
Michael Zarrillo lined an RBI-single to right field that scored sophomore
Ethan Swidler from second, to make the tally 3-1.
Bucknell drove in two more runs in the fourth on solo home runs by Seam Keys and Corson, to make the score 5-1. The Bison added another two runs to their advantage in the fifth, bringing the tally to 7-1.
Lafayette plated another run in the sixth on an RBI-groundout by junior
Ben Petrone that drove in junior
Easton Brenner, making the score 7-2.
Bucknell responded in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three more runs to extend its lead to 10-2
The Leopards tacked on another run in the top of the eighth when freshman
Teddy Cashman hit an RBI-double to right field which scored Zarrillo and made the tally 10-3.
The Bison came right back and added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, bringing the final score to 12-3.
Tyler O'Neill collected the win for the Bison, giving up three runs, seven hits and striking out seven over 7.1 innings of work. Freshman Tristian Helmick took the loss, surrendering three runs on three hits, while recording a strikeout in 1.2 innings.
Lafayette continues its series with Bucknell on Saturday at 1 p.m.
