LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell took the series finale with the Lafayette baseball team, 13-6, on Sunday at Depew Field.
The Leopards jumped out in front first. Freshman
Matt Colella doubled down the left field line to lead off the game, and then later in the inning, back-to-back walks to junior
Michael Zarrillo and senior
Blaze Fadio loaded the bases for junior
Easton Brenner. He hit a medium-depth fly ball to right field that allowed Colella to score on a sacrifice fly, giving the Leopards a 1-0 lead.
Bucknell quickly responded in the bottom of the frame. The lead-off man for the Bison, Billy Kender, tied the game on a solo home run to left field. Grant Voytovich gave the Bison the lead on an RBI-single, making the score 2-1.
Bucknell added to its lead in the third, scoring five runs in the inning, including a three-run triple by Sean Keys. The Bison added another run in the fourth to lead to 8-1.
Lafayette started the fifth with back-to-back singles by Colella and sophomore
Ethan Swidler. Zarrillo was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and then Fadio hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Colella. Later in the inning, freshman
Teddy Cashman hit an RBI-single to the Bucknell shortstop, to make the score 8-3.
In the seventh, Lafayette cut into the Bucknell lead. Swidler doubled to center field to start the inning, followed by Zarrillo who lined a single to right field, putting runners on the corners for Fadio. Fadio blasted a three-run home run to left field, making the tally 11-6. The home run was Fadio's sixth of the year. In the eventual 13-6 final.
Graeme Carroll collected the win for the Bison, giving up five hits and three runs, while striking out three over three innings. Senior
Joey Pence took the loss for the Leopards, allowing four hits and two runs, while striking out two over two innings of action.
The Leopards host Monmouth on Wednesday, at 3:30 at Kamine Stadium, in their final non-conference test of the season.
