EASTON, Pa. - Senior attacker
Peter Lehman led the Leopards' offense with three goals and two assists in the team's defeat against Navy on Saturday afternoon inside Fisher Stadium. The contest was neck-and-neck until Henry Tolker found the game-winning goal at the 2:47 mark.
Tolker gave the Midshipmen an early 1-0 lead off an assist from Jack Flaherty. At the 8:47 mark, Lehman responded with his first goal of the day, after beating his man and firing home. Just over a minute later, fellow senior
Charlie Cunniffe gave Lafayette its first lead of the day (2-1). Navy's Max Hewitt tied the game at 2-2 courtesy of a Dane Swanson assist. After 10 minutes in Easton, it was all square at two goals apiece.
Seven seconds into the second quarter, Lehman unleashed a shot for his second goal of the day, giving Lafayette a 3-2 lead. The Midshipmen responded with three unanswered goals, providing them a 5-3 lead with 4:58 left in the first half. At the 1:34 mark, Lehman found a striding sophomore
Aidan Kopen, who cut Lafayette's deficit to 5-4 heading into the intermission.
Both teams found the back of the net twice in the third period. Senior captain
John Mathes began the quarter with a goal, but Tolker and Xavier Arline restored Navy's two-goal lead (7-5) with 8:09 to go. Senior
Kalman Kraham rifled home a goal at the 3:26 mark, off an assist from classmate Lehman. With 15 to go in Easton, the Midshipmen led 7-6.
The fourth quarter was back-and-forth. Tolker extended Navy's lead (8-6) until senior
Louis Baloh scored his first career goal to cut Navy's lead. The Midshipmen scored with just less than 10 minutes left in the game, but junior
Liam Sargent and Lehman tied the game at nine apiece with their goals. With 2:47 left in the contest, Tolker scored the game-winning goal of an assist from Arline. Today's result improves Navy to 7-4 on the season and the Leopards fell to 4-6.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Joe Doherty made a game-high 11 saves, while Dan Daly earned 10 stops.
Junior
Evan Prince went 12-23 from the x on Saturday and picked up a team-high seven ground balls. Navy's Zach Hayashi won 11-of-23 of his faceoffs, while grabbing four ground balls.
The Leopards are back in action at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Boston U.
