Leopards Shut Out Rival Lehigh, 2-0

Jindal scores her second goal of the season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lafayette women's soccer earned its first Patriot League win of the year, shutting out rival Lehigh, 2-0, on Wednesday night at Ulrich Sports Complex.

The Leopards opened the scoring in the 25th minute, when sophomore Nadia Zaffanella  forced a Lehigh turnover and then found senior Alexa Jindal. Jindal sent a shot from the left side of the box to the upper right corner of the goal, past the diving Mountain Hawks' goalkeeper, giving the Maroon and White a 1-0 lead. The goal was Jindal's second of the season.

Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the half, as Lafayette took a 1-0 lead to the locker room.

Lafayette again found the scoring column in the 51st minute, this time a through-ball by Jindal connected with junior Katrina Santelli. Santelli rocketed a straight-on shot from the top of the box to the low left corner of the goal, extending the Lafayette advantage to 2-0. The goal was Santelli's second of the year.

The Leopards continued to play stellar defense for the remainder of the second half, securing the 2-0 decision.

Lafayette finished the evening with eight shots and Lehigh had 15. Lafayette had four shots on goal, while the Mountain Hawks had six. The Leopards had four corners and the Mountain Hawks had eight. The Maroon and White were led by Jindal and Santelli, who both had two shots.

Sophomore Catherine Apker played the full 90 minutes and recorded six saves. Her Lehigh counterpart, Maggie Ousouljoglou, also played the full 90 minutes and had two saves.

The Leopards are next in action when they host Loyola on Saturday at 2 p.m.
