BALTIMORE, Md. - The Leopard women's soccer team battled Loyola to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Loyola dominated time of possession in the first half, though neither team was able to break away and score. The Leopards took one shot in the first 45 minutes by junior
Nadia Zaffanella, while Loyola fired off 11. Lafayette junior
Catherine Apker had five saves in the first stanza.
The Greyhounds continued to control possession of the ball in the second half. In the 73rd minute, Loyola found the back of the net. A cross by Malia Tarazon connected with Asma Merzoughgui on the right side of the goal. Merzoughgui chipped a shot to the low right corner of the goal to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead with 27 minutes left to play.
Lafayette tied the score in the 86
th minute on the fifth goal of the season by Zaffanella. The Ellington, Conn. native scored on a straight-away strike from 10 yards out to knot up the match, 1-1, which proved to be the final.
Led by Zaffanella, Lafayette ended the evening with six shots, three of which were on goal. Loyola had 17 shots, with eight on goal.
Apker started the match for Lafayette and played the full 90 minutes, recording seven saves. Hannah Goetzer also played the full 90 minutes with two saves.
The Leopards return home on Saturday for Senior Day against Army at 7 p.m.
