EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore
Riley Martin and junior
Samir Dishnica both tallied goals to guide the Leopards to a 2-0 win over Boston U. on a windy Halloween night at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
Lafayette was the better team to begin the match and its offense was creating problems for the visitors early on. In the 14
th minute, the hosts broke through. The Leopards were working the ball down the right flank when Dishnica spotted Martin making a clever run into the box. The midfielder made a brilliant pass, putting his teammate in a favorable position. Martin didn't think twice before shooting and his right-footed strike blasted past Ben Alexander at his near post to give Lafayette the lead.
Seconds later the Maroon and White struck again. Lafayette won the ball back after the restart and it made its way out wide to sophomore
Anthony Durling. The Hamilton, N.J. native did well to make his way towards the penalty area, before picking out Dishnica in the box. The midfielder took a quality first touch and then released a snap shot that sneaked under Alexander's outstretched arm to double the Leopards' advantage.
Boston U. began to settle in after a hectic start to the contest and looked especially dangerous on the counter. Pharis Petrica and Alex Bonnington generated some half chances for the visitors, but Lafayette defended well and kept the Terriers honest in transition.
After 45 minutes in Easton, the Maroon and White maintained their 2-0 lead.
Tackles were flying in on both sides as the second half got underway. The visitors now had the wind in their back, which they looked to use to their advantage on the break. Ethan Gill and Charlie Tuckerman had a flurry of opportunities 10 minutes into the stanza, but their shots were off target or saved by senior goalkeeper
Eric Axtman.
A red card in the 68
th minute completely changed proceedings. The Terriers were knocking the ball around the back when a misplaced pass created immediate danger. Junior forward
Roy Biegon was first to react and get to the ball. John Roman was the last defender for Boston U. and his mistimed challenge took down Biegon who was through on goal. Roman was shown a straight red card and the visitors were reduced to 10 men.
Additional stoppages killed the match's flow in the final 20 minutes, despite the Terriers' desperate push to rescue a point. Nonetheless, at the final whistle Lafayette prevailed with a 2-0 victory that clinched its berth in the 2025 Patriot League Tournament.
Seeding will be determined on the league's final match day of the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The Leopards conclude their regular season at 6 p.m. on Tuesday as they travel across town for a rivalry matchup with Lehigh.
