Leopards Fall at Boston U.

Apker ties a career-high with 10 saves

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lafayette women's soccer team dropped a Saturday afternoon contest to Boston U., 5-0, at Nickerson Field.

The Terriers, who were 6-8-7 last year and made the NCAA Tournament winning the Patriot League championship, struck first in the 10th minute. After collecting a rebound from her first shot, Olivia Avellar chipped the ball into the low center of the goal, giving Boston a 1-0 advantage. Neither team was able to score in the ensuing 35 minutes of play and the match went to halftime with the Terriers leading 1-0.

In the second half, Boston U. added to its lead with a goal by Alli Powderly in the 48th minute and then had back-to-back goals by Mackenzie Stickelman in the 61st and 79th minutes. Juliana Osterman added the final score of the match for Terriers in the 89th minute, bringing the final tally to 5-0.

The Leopards' offense was kept in check by a Terrier defense that allowed Lafayette only three shots. Junior Catherine Apker, junior Abby Giordano and junior Ava Murphy all had one shot for the Maroon and White.

Apker played the full 90 minutes and recorded 10 saves, which ties her career-high. Bridget Carr also played 90 minutes for Boston U. and recorded three saves.

The Leopards are next in action when they return home to take on Cornell on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
