EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette women's soccer fell to Cornell, 4-0, in its final non-conference test of the season on Tuesday at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards began the match with two shots by senior
Katrina Santelli. The first shot came in the second minute and forced Cornell goalkeeper Natalie Medugno to make a leaping save.
The Big Red got on the board in the 37
th minute with a one-time shot by Raya Leikin on a pass from Jessica Alessi, to give Cornell a 1-0 lead. The Big Red doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 44
th minute, as Leikin triggered a corner kick that Sydney Allen headed into the goal.
In the second half, Cornell continued to click offensively. Tanum Nelson received a crossing pass from Lauren DiPierri and put the ball in the back of the net in the 75
th minute. In the 86
th minute, the Big Red added another goal, as Izzy Scott headed the ball into the goal off of a corner for the 4-0 final.
Lafayette had four shots, two of which were on goal. Santelli led the Leopards with two shots, while junior
Nadia Zaffanella and freshman
Era Methoxha each had one.
In goal for the Leopards, senior
Maddie Miniutti played the full 90 minutes, recording five saves. Her Cornell counterparts, Medugno and Naomi Glassberg, split the time in goal and had a save each.
The Maroon and White return to Patriot League play when they host Holy Cross on Saturday at 5 p.m.
