EASTON, Pa. – Senior captain
Eric Axtman and freshman forward
Nicolas Papadopoulos were named the Patriot League's Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week, on Monday afternoon. Both Leopards were key contributors in Lafayette's win over American, which was its first conference victory of the season.
Heading into the match with the Eagles, Axtman was one of three players nationwide that had logged every minute in goal for their team. The Economics major continued his streak on Saturday and has now played 1,080 minutes in 2025. Against American, Axtman recorded two saves and claimed multiple crosses as the visitors searched for an equalizer. The Harrisburg, Pa. native has been a standout amongst his conference foes, ranking second in goals against average (.750), shutouts (5) and third in saves (44) with an 83.0 save percentage.
Papadopoulos earned the first Patriot League laurel of his career by providing an assist to sophomore forward
Riley Martin in the 46
th minute that proved to be the match-winning goal. The rookie out of Limassol, Cyprus has started in 11 games this season and opened his scoring account in a 2-1 win over Fairfield on Sept. 6. The Mechanical Engineering major has played 653 minutes so far this campaign and will look to continue leading the line up front for the Leopards.
The Maroon and White return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as they take a trip to Baltimore, Md. for a showdown with Loyola.
