EASTON, Pa. - Kente Edwards was named to the 2025 Walter Camp FCS Player of the Year Watch List, announced on Wednesday. In its third year, the Walter Camp Award is given to the best player in the football championship subdivision (FCS) each campaign.
The Economics major is one of 15 players named to the watch list. This year's list consists of five running backs, four quarterbacks, three wide receivers and three defensive players. Edwards is one of two Patriot League representatives.
In his first season as the starting running back for the Leopards, Edwards has reached historic highs. The Annandale, N.J. native has won the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week award six times this season while rushing for 1,297 yards, the fourth-most in Lafayette history. Against Richmond, Edwards ran 26 times for a career-high 265 yards and two touchdowns en route to a 35-28 win on Nov. 15.. The two rushing scores gave the junior 17 touchdowns on the season, a new single-season record for the Maroon and White.
Edwards has rushed for 200-plus yards three times in 2025, a feat that's been accomplished 15 times in the program's 144-year history. Nationwide, the tailback ranks first in yards per carry (8.21), fourth in rushing yards (1,297), third in rushing yards per game (144.1) and fourth in rushing touchdowns (17).
Edwards and the Leopards will vie for the Patriot League championship on Saturday when they host Lehigh for Rivalry 161.
